The MECHANICS project team organized a highly successful community workshop in Kanyama compound, bringing together over 80 residents to discuss flooding challenges and potential solutions. **Workshop Outcomes:** - Community members mapped flood-prone areas and drainage pathways - Local knowledge was integrated into climate modeling datasets - Residents identified priority areas for infrastructure improvement - Youth participants learned basic GIS mapping techniques The participatory approach emphasized co-creation of knowledge, with community members actively contributing their lived experiences to the research process. Many participants reported feeling empowered to engage with urban planning issues affecting their daily lives. "We know where the water flows when it rains. This workshop helped us share that knowledge with people who can make a difference," said Grace Mulenga, a long-time Kanyama resident. The data collected will inform both academic publications and policy recommendations to the Lusaka City Council. Follow-up sessions are planned to share research findings with the community and discuss implementation strategies. The MECHANICS project continues to demonstrate that effective urban research requires genuine community partnership. For more information: mechanics@curp.unza.zm
